Configure WINS server (name resolution)

You can specify whether to use a WINS server for name resolution. This allows users to access network resources by name instead of IP address.

To allow the Fiery Server to obtain a WINS address automatically, you must first allow the Fiery Server to get its own IP address automatically.

Important: There are two versions of Configure and they are specific to the Fiery Server you are connected to. This is a combined procedure that describes what to do when connected to a Fiery Server with FS100/100Pro or earlier, and notes about what to do with FS150/150 Pro or later. If you are not sure which version of Configure you are using, see Which version of Configure am I using?.
  1. From Configure, choose Network > Protocol > TCP/IP > WINS Server.
Note: If you are connected to a Fiery Server with FS150/150Pro, you can find settings mentioned in this procedure in Network > IPv4 Address instead.
  2. Select Use WINS Server.
Note: If you are connected to a Fiery Server with FS150/150Pro, select Confgure WINS Server instead.
  3. Select one of the following:
    • Automatically - Specifies the WINS server IP address automatically.

    • IP address - Allows you to specify the WINS Server IP address manually.

Note: If you are connected to a Fiery Server with FS150/150Pro, these controls are labeled Automatic and Manual instead.
  4. In the NetBIOS Name field, type the name of the Fiery Server.

The name appears on the network when users access the Fiery Server through SMB (Server Message Block). This name is the same name as the Fiery Server.

  5. Apply or save your changes.
