Configure Windows Printing (SMB)

Windows Printing enables Server Message Block (SMB), the file and printer sharing protocol built into Windows. Enabling SMB allows the Fiery Server to be listed on the network so that Windows computers can print to a particular print connection (Hold, Print, or Direct) on the Fiery Server.

Windows Printing uses TCP/IP, so you must configure TCP/IP on the Fiery Server and on all computers that use Windows printing.

Important: There are two versions of Configure and they are specific to the Fiery Server you are connected to. This is a combined procedure that describes what to do when connected to a Fiery Server with FS100/100Pro or earlier, and notes about what to do with FS150/150 Pro or later. If you are not sure which version of Configure you are using, see Which version of Configure am I using?.

For information about setting up a Windows computer for Windows printing, see Printing, which is part of the user documentation set, and your Windows documentation.

  1. From Configure, choose Network > Services > Windows Printing (SMB).
Note: If you are connected to a Fiery Server with FS150/150Pro, you can find the settings mentioned in this procedure in Job Submission > Windows Printing instead.
  2. Select Enable Windows Printing (SMB).
  3. If your Fiery Server supports both PostScript and PCL, select the type of printer driver that is available for users to download when they install printer drivers with the Point and Print method of installation.
  4. Apply or save your changes.
