Create, edit, or duplicate virtual printers

Only Administrators can create, edit, and duplicate virtual printers. Administrators can also publish job presets as virtual printers.

  1. In Device Center, click Virtual Printers under Workflows.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • To create a virtual printer, click New on the toolbar.
      • If you want to create a basic virtual printer, select Virtual Printer.
      • If you want to create an IPDS virtual printer, select IPDS Virtual Printer.
    • To edit a virtual printer, click Edit on the toolbar.
    • To duplicate a virtual printer, click Duplicate on the toolbar.
  3. Specify the following:
    • Printer Name - This is the alphanumeric name of the virtual printer.
      Note: When you have created or duplicated a virtual printer, you cannot change the name, but you can change print settings.
    • Description - Add or modify comments to describe the virtual printer to users, for example, company brochure.
    • Job Actions - Select one of the Fiery server job actions, such as Hold, or Process and Hold.
    • Job Properties - Select Define to access Job Properties to specify print settings, or select from a list of preset properties.
    Note: You can lock any job setting by clicking its lock icon.
  4. If required, select the JobExpert check box and then select a category from the menu.
  5. If required, select Preflight and edit the settings:
    • Preset for PDF jobs - Allows you to choose a preset.
    • Preset for Non-PDF jobs - Allows you to use default preflight settings, customize a preflight setting, or select other presets.
    • Default Preset - Indicates that print jobs will use the default print settings, unless you click Edit to change the settings.
    • Edit - Allows you to select other presets or customize a preflight setting.
      Note: You can also save the customized preflight setting as a preset.
    • On critical error - Specifies the action the Fiery server performs when encountering a critical error. Use job action refers to the job action specified for the virtual printer.
  6. If required, select the JobFlow check box and click Select.
    • In the Fiery JobFlow Workflows window, select a workflow and then click Select.
      Note: If you want to create a new Fiery JobFlow workflow, click Manage workflows.
  7. For an IPDS virtual printer, click Next and then specify the appropriate settings in the IPDS window:
    • Job
    • Exceptions
    • Input Virtual Tray Settings
    • Image shift
    • Stacker Settings
  8. Click OK.
