Color Replacement

Color replacement allows you to replace colors in the output raster. It works best with solid colors and uniform tints.

You can enter color tint values for replacement or select the original color to replace with the eye dropper. You can then enter a color replacement tint value, sample replacement color with the eye dropper, or replace using an existing Fiery spot color. The order of color replacements may be changed, and individual replacements can be shown or hidden with the eye icon.

You can zoom in to an area on the image down to a pixel for color replacement.

To use the Color Replacement feature, in the Image Preview pane, click and move the eye dropper (color picker icon ) over the pixel of the original color in the image, and then move the eye dropper (replacement picker icon ) over the pixel of the replacement color. The large square defines the currently viewed area, while the smaller square is the pixel. Optionally, you can click the spot color replacement icon ( to open the spot color library on the Fiery server and choose a spot color to use for the replacement color. Click Apply to save the changes.

Page () and Local () icons show the type of color correction made. Page edits are indicated with solid lines, and local edits are indicated with dash lines. When you modify an entry, Fiery ImageViewer removes the check box if applied because the entry is valid only for the current page. You can apply the local color replacement and page color replacement to all pages by selecting the corresponding All Pages check box.

You can save page color curves or page color replacements as a preset, or you can save both page color curves and page color replacements as a preset. Then, you can apply color replacement through Command WorkStation, or Fiery Hot Folders with Job Properties.

Up to thirty-two color replacements can be applied per page. You can change the order of color replacements and hide or delete individual replacements. By selecting the color replacements in the Edits pane, you can modify a substituted color later.

In Fiery ImageViewer 4.2 and later, when you apply any color replacement edit, it will apply only to the current page, unless you explicitly select the All Pages check box in the Edits pane. The changes are applied during printing of the job.

Keep in mind the following:
  • Clearing the All Pages check box from any page for any color replacement edit, should delete that specific edit from all pages except the current page.
  • When a Fiery server is connected to a high-speed inkjet press, color replacement will not be shown in Front and Back Overlay mode.
  • For best results, view the raster at 100% in Fiery ImageViewer when applying color replacements. If you view the raster at less than 100%, anti-aliasing of the raster preview may cause color replacement at edges to look distorted. This does not affect the print.
  • Color replacement is only available for jobs processed with the Composite overprint print option selected.
  • Deleting the color replacement entry from any page will delete the color replacement from all pages in the document only if you selected the color replacement edit (All Pages check box). If you cleared the color replacement edit, then deleting the edit will only affect the current page.
