Measure and set luminance

You can use Monitor Profiler to measure and set the brightness for the desired luminance.

Luminance describes a monitor’s brightness in candelas per square meter (cd/m2). Common luminance values range from 50 to 300. Some recommended luminance values are:

  • CRT - 100

  • LCD- 120

  • Aged CRT - 80 to 90

  • Laptop - 90

When you calibrate luminance, change only the brightness and no other monitor settings. The brightness control might be a physical button or an on-screen display (OSD) that appears on the monitor.

  1. Correctly position the spectrophotometer for measuring.
  2. If you use an OSD, position the OSD away from the spectrophotometer (in a corner of the screen, for example).
  3. When Monitor Profiler tells you, adjust the brightness to the maximum value and click Next.
  4. Reduce the monitor’s brightness until the measured luminance matches the target luminance.

After each time that you adjust the brightness, wait a few seconds to allow the spectrophotometer to measure and display the resulting luminance.

  5. Click Next.
