Customize Image Enhance settings

The default settings for the Apply Image Enhancement print option automatically optimize the exposure, color, shadows, highlights, and sharpness of each specified image in a job. If the default settings do not provide satisfactory results, you can customize the Apply Image Enhancement settings for properties such as brightness, contrast, and red-eye correction.

The Apply Image Enhancement print option, when selected for a job, applies photo finishing enhancement to color images on specified pages or sheets of a job when it is printed. This option affects only photographic images, not graphics such as logos or charts, and not text.

The Apply Image Enhancement print option is located in the Image tab of the printer drivers and Job Properties. For more information about this print option, see Printing, which is part of the user documentation set.

  1. Open Device Center in one of the following ways:
    • Click the More icon (three vertical dots) next to the server name in the Servers pane.
    • Double-click the server name in the Servers pane.
    • Click Server > Device Center.
    • Right-click the server name and select Device Center.
  2. In Device Center, click Image Enhance under Workflows.
  3. Click Edit.
  4. Click Custom Settings, modify the settings, and then click OK.
    • Exposure - Enables the Dynamic Correction, Contrast, and Brightness controls.

If Dynamic Correction is selected, the Fiery server analyzes each image and automatically applies the correct contrast and brightness, using separate values for contrast and brightness. Dynamic correction attempts to fill the full dark to light range.

You can also specify contrast and brightness adjustments manually. If Dynamic Correction is selected, any manual adjustments that you make to the Contrast and Brightness controls are applied in addition to automatic contrast and brightness adjustments. If Dynamic Correction is not selected, Contrast and Brightness manual adjustments are applied to the original image.

    • Color - Enables the Cast Correction, Tone, and Saturation controls.

If Cast Correction is selected, the Fiery server analyzes each image and automatically corrects the color balance of the image.

You can also specify tone and saturation adjustments manually. If Cast Correction is selected, manual adjustments that you make are applied in addition to the Cast Correction automatic adjustments. Color balance adjustments are applied, and then any Tone and Saturation adjustments are applied. If Cast Correction is not selected, Tone and Saturation manual adjustments are applied to the original image.

    • Shadows & Highlights - Enables the Auto Correction, Shadows, and Highlights controls.

If Auto Correction is selected, the Fiery server analyzes each image and attempts to correct for shadows that are too dark and highlights that are too light. You can specify Shadows and Highlights enhancements manually if you clear the Auto Correction option first.

    • Sharpness - Enables the Skin Sharpness and Non-skin Sharpness controls.

The Skin Sharpness control affects flesh tones in an image. The Non-skin Sharpness control affects the other colors in the image. The range for each control is from -100 (softening) to 100 (sharpening).

    • Red-Eye Correction - Red-eye is the condition in which a light source, usually a flash built into a camera, reflects from the retina in the subject's eye, causing a red pupil in the photo.

If Red-Eye Correction is selected, the Fiery server analyzes the image and attempts to identify and correct the red-eye condition. You can adjust the size of the correction area using the Region control, where 100 corresponds to just the area of the red pupil.
