Advanced black controls for Fiery Edge profiles

Specify values for the black point of the profile, and the controls for black generation.

  1. Click the Advanced black controls tab.
  2. Set the following values by moving the slider for each:
    • Maximum Total Ink: Sets the amount of ink used. We recommend leaving this slider set to the maximum value.
    • Ink amounts at black: If Automatic black point finder has been disabled, this control sets the targeted ink amounts for the cyan, magenta, and yellow channels at the black point of the profile. The amount of black at the black point is defined in the Black controls tab.
    • Search radius: If Automatic black point finder has been enabled, this control allows you to set a range around the L* axis and the a*/b* coordinates to find a darker black point.
    • Use media relative colorimetry: Disable Use media relative colorimetry when the aim a*, b* values for the black-point searching are specified in Absolute colorimetry for cases where the goal is to match a known black reference color.
    • Black usage at gamut surface: Sets the rate at which black ink is added to light green, yellow, and orange colors along the gamut surface. These controls act similarly to the black start and black generation controls in the basic black controls. The adjustment ranges are from 0 (most delayed use of black) to 1 (start darkening with black directly). Typically setting the control to 1 will produce the maximum color gamut in a region but will introduce black ink at higher lightness colors. In some instances, the addition of black ink gives a grainy appearance in skin tones. For these cases move the adjustment to lower values to delay the use of black.
  3. Click OK or select another tab.
