The Fiery XF server can send and receive status messages from EFI printers and from third-party manufacturers.

Both the print MIS device and the EFI printer must support bidirectional communication.

The Fiery XF server can:

• Receive print-ready jobs from a print management information system (print MIS device) and submit them to the printer, if the particular combination of devices supports it. Bidirectional communication with MIS systems requires an Advanced JDF Option.

• Transmit information about the current job status back to the print MIS device.

• Receive information about media consumption and ink consumption from the printer.
