Optimize spot colors

Spot Pro optimizes one or more selected spot colors for a given media or substrate and an output profile. Optimization may reduce the color difference (∆E) and provide a better colorimetric match. You can optimize custom spot colors and spot colors from the internal spot color library.

Spot Pro supports the following:
  • All measurement instruments from FieryMeasure.
  • Existing swatch book features, which are patch sizes and page sizes.

Before you begin, connect your measuring instrument to the computer.

  1. In Spot Pro, select one or more spot colors.
  2. Click Optimize.
  3. In the Optimization settings window, select whether to optimize Selected colors only or All spot colors. If selecting All spot colors, choose to apply optimization to one of the following options:
    • All spot colors in this group
    • All spot colors in all groups
  4. Select the measurement instrument from the list.
    Note:

Only supported inline measurement instruments are shown.

  5. Click Next to the Job Properties window.
  6. Set the media or substrate source.
Note: Do not change the color settings.
  7. Click Print to print a chart of the spot colors to be optimized.
  8. Follow the on-screen instructions to measure the chart.
  9. Click Next.

Spot Pro displays the achieved average ∆E and the maximum ∆E.

  10. Spot Pro can generate a report showing the L*a*b* spot color values, device values, and color differences for the optimization. To generate the report, click View in the report column after optimizing.
  11. Click Iterate to repeat the optimization procedure until no further optimization is possible.

The iteration results are shown in the optimization table. Select the desired optimization and click Apply to use your optimization.

You can select a particular iteration and delete it from the optimization table.

  12. To save the report as HTML, click Save Report.
  13. Click Finish to create your spot color optimization file. The spot color optimization file is applied to all workflows that are using that spot color table.
