Specialty color mixing and output profiles

Editing with specialty color is offered for all the spot color groups (custom and factory), it is not limited to just one group. It is not supported for substitute color groups.

Keep in mind the following when using specialty color values per output profile:

  • The specialty color values will stay with the specific output profile. For example, when the user edits a spot color with silver, and changes the output profile, the silver will not be retained for that profile. Specialty color information is output profile specific. If the user changes the output profile, the specialty color information changes.
  • The specialty color information is retained on the Fiery server for each output profile and is retrieved when the corresponding output profile is selected.
  • Specialty color printing is supported only for swatch book and is not available for variation print.
  • For a Fiery server that supports licensed specialty colors, you can use one or two specialty colors in the document when one or both are licensed and installed. The licensed specialty colors can be gold, silver, fluorescent pink, fluorescent yellow, clear, or white. When a specialty color is licensed but not installed, you can process with it but not print. When you edit a specialty color with Spot Color Editor, all output profiles that have the specialty color enabled will also include the edit.

When a Fiery server supports two specialty colors such that it has two color stations in addition to CMYK, you can print one specialty color, such as white first or before CMYK, and one specialty color such as clear over or after CMYK. Specialty colors, silver and gold, can be installed and printed in either the first or last station.

Note: Support for gold and silver in two color stations simultaneously will be able to print in either the first or last station if your printer supports it.

Limitations

  1. Variations for spot colors with a specialty color component will not reproduce the specialty color component.
  2. Optimization of spot colors with a specialty color component will not reproduce the specialty color component, due to the limitations of measurement devices not returning reliable measurements. Spot colors will be optimized to reproduce as accurately possible to the original without a specialty color component in it.
  3. For installed specialty colors, if more than one specialty toner slot is enabled and if the toner slots are configured with the same specialty toner, then Spot Pro will display both specialty toner slots but the values will be saved for only one specialty toner slot in the user interface.
  4. For licensed specialty colors, if two specialty toner slots are enabled and if the toner slots have any common specialty colors, then only the unique specialty colors in slot 2 will be listed.

For example, if two slots, then S1 and S2 are enabled, and

    • If S1 and S2 have the same list of specialty colors, then only one slot will be displayed in Spot Pro.
    • If S1 and S2 contain common specialty colors configured as below:
      • S1 - White, Gold, Silver
      • S2 - White, Silver, Pink, Gold

then Spot Pro will display all the colors enabled such that the S1 slot shows with White, Gold and Silver colors, whereas S2 slot will show White, Silver, Pink and Gold. You will not be able to select the same color in both the slots for editing.

    • If both S1 and S2 contain different specialty colors with no items common between them, then both the slots are displayed with all the configured color.
