Properties in Metrix Quick Impose

A number of properties can be modified in the Metrix Quick Impose window.

The properties displayed vary according to the properties of the job. If a property field is grayed out, you cannot make changes.

Item Options Description
Project Name Enter text The user enters a name for the project.
Product Name Select jobs to display Shows all open jobs.
Customer List of available customers from the Metrix database. Customers entered into the Metrix database can be selected to associate with the currently open project.

Bound - Perfect

Diecut

The type of finished product. This is determined by the sheet size and the number of pages in the job.

A bound saddle-stitched, or perfect job is dependent on the available folding equipment.

Note: For a one page job, only the Flat option is displayed in the drop-down menu. For jobs that have pages in the range of two-seven, the Flat or Folded option can be displayed. For jobs that consist of eight pages or more and the page count is divisible by four, the Bound options are displayed.
Note: The Diecut option is available when the job contains:
  • A spot color separation.
  • A spot color separation with a name recognized by the die name library on the Fiery server.
If the spot color separation is recognized by the Fiery server, Product Type is set to Diecut by default.
Die Cutter Tool Name of matched die lines. Die Cutter Tool is only available if Diecut is selected as the Product Type.

If the die line matches an existing outline from the die name library on the Fiery server, the name of the matching die line and the percent it matches will be available from the menu.

Match Manually is available by default.

If the job requires bound work, you can specify the side of the binding edge in the layout.
Note: If the job is flat work, the Binding Side property field will not be displayed.
Combine Pages Cannot be edited Can be used to create a folded product from a two-page flat job, such as a map, when changing the number of pages field from 2 to 16, 24, 32, etc.
Required quantity Enter number of copies required. The default is 1,000.
Finished Width Enter size The width of the finished job. If you change the height or the width of the finished job, Metrix Quick Impose changes the layout. Scaling is not possible. If you make the height and width smaller, Metrix centers and crops the content.
Finished Height Enter size The height of the finished job.
Product Grain

Product grain, which is the parameter in Metrix, is different from the sheet grain, which is the parameter in Job Properties. The following options are available in the drop-down menu:
  • Either: The pages will be laid out both horizontally and vertically to best fit the sheet size.
  • Either-All Same: The layout of all pages will be the same to best fit the sheet size.
  • Horizontal: The pages will be laid out in the horizontal direction based on the grain direction of the substrate.
  • Vertical: The pages will be laid out in the vertical direction based on the grain direction of the substrate.
Note: Product Grain is read-only when Product Type is set to Diecut.
Bleeds (All Edges) Enter measurement Bleeds are the space between the products on the sheet.
Note: Bleeds is read-only when Product Type is set to Diecut.
Number of Pages Cannot be edited unless creating a folded product from a 2-page flat. Number of pages in the PDF.
Largest Text Components Drop-down list of available number of pages on a signature. Indicates the number of pages that can fit per signature in a job. This option is dependent on the page size and the sheet size of the substrate.
Fold Cannot be edited Folds are determined by the number of pages and the JDF folding sequence that will be used. The user can choose any of the JDF folding sequences that have already been defined in the Metrix database or create a new sequence as required.
Binding Machine Either perfect binding or saddle stitch This option is displayed only if your job requires bound work.

Binding Machine options are displayed depending on the options selected in the Product Type field. The Binding Machine options are:

Perfect Binder: Displayed when Bound - Perfect is selected in the Product Type field.

Stitcher Trimmer: Displayed when Bound - Saddle Stitch is selected in the Product Type field.

Stock Select a stock from the Stock Selector in Metrix. Clicking Stock opens the Stock Selector in Metrix. You must have Substrate Catalog entries already defined before opening a job in Metrix Quick Impose.
Sheet Size Choose the sheet size of the stock you selected. When you have selected a stock, the Sheet Size menu displays all the sheet sizes available for that stock.

The printing method for this layout. Perfected is available only when the selected press is capable of perfecting as defined in the Metrix database.

Metrix automatically loads a default marks set when connected to the Fiery server. The default marks set is included with the installation.

PDF proof

The export profile generates layouts for the press. If you select PDF or JDF, each PDF or JDF is a separate layout. If you select PDF proof or JDF proof, all layouts are combined in the file. The profile is exported to the Fiery Command WorkStation Held list. See Export a job from Metrix Quick Impose.
