Color Replacement

Color replacement allows you to replace colors in the output raster. It works best with solid colors and uniform tints.

Note: The Color Replacement feature is available only in Fiery ImageViewer 4.0 and later.

You can enter color tint values to be replaced or can select the original color to replace with the eye dropper. You can then enter a color replacement tint value or sample replacement color with the eye dropper. The order of color replacements may be changed, and individual replacements can be hidden or deleted.

You can zoom in to an area on the image down to a pixel for color replacement.

To use the Color Replacement feature, in the Image Preview pane, click and move the eye dropper (color picker icon) over the pixel of the original color in the image, and then move the eye dropper over the pixel of the replacement color. The large square defines the area that is currently being viewed, while the smaller square is the pixel. Click Apply to save the changes.

Page () and Local () icons show the type of color correction made. The page and local edits are differentiated by a solid line or a dashed line. When an entry is modified, the check box, if applied, is removed because the entry is valid only for the current page. You can choose to apply the local color edit or page color edit to all pages by selecting the corresponding All Pages check box.

You can save page color replacements as a preset alone or along with curve adjustment presets, and then apply color replacement through Command WorkStation, or Fiery Hot Folders with Job Properties. Local color replacement cannot be saved as a preset. If you combine local color replacement with curve adjustment, only the curve adjustment will be saved as a preset.

After a correction is applied, up to thirty-one additional color replacements can be applied for a total of thirty-two replacements. The order of color replacements may be changed, and individual replacements can be hidden or deleted. A color that is substituted can be modified later by selecting the color replacements in the history.

In ImageViewer 4.2, when you apply any color replacement edit, it will be applicable only to the current page, unless you explicitly select the All Pages check box in the History list. The changes are applied during printing of the job.

Keep in mind the following:
  • Clearing the All Pages check box from any page for any color replacement edit, should delete that specific edit from all pages except the current page.
  • When a Fiery server is connected to a high-speed inkjet press, color replacement will not be shown in Front and Back Overlay mode.
  • A maximum of thirty-two color replacements per page can be performed.
  • Curve modification is applied after substituting original color. For this reason, always create color replacements before adjusting curves.
  • Soft Proof PDF does not show the color replacement changes applied in the job.
  • For best results, view the raster at 100% in Fiery ImageViewer when applying color replacements. If raster is viewed at less than 100%, anti-aliasing of the raster preview may cause color replacement at edges to look distorted. This does not affect the print.
  • Color replacement done in the background (paper white areas) will not appear in the printed output.
  • Color replacement is only available for jobs processed with the Composite overprint print option selected.
  • When the color replacement entry is deleted from any page, it is deleted from all pages in the document, only if the color replacement edit (All Pages check box) is selected. If the color replacement edit (All Pages check box) is cleared, then deleting the edit will be applicable only for the current page.
