Color Replacement

The Color Replacement feature allows you to replace colors in the output raster of an image. Color Replacement works best with solid colors and uniform tints.

Color Replacement is available only in Fiery ImageViewer 4.0 and later when connected to a Fiery server running Fiery system software FS350/350 Pro or later. The feature is supported only for jobs processed with the composite overprint print option selected.

With Color Replacement, you can specify a replacement color by entering color values, sampling a pixel with the color picker, or selecting an existing Fiery spot color. Each color replacement can be applied to a single page or to all pages in a job. You can see the type of color correction by the icons in the Edits pane:

  • Page edits use solid lines.
  • Local edits use dashed lines.

You can save page color curves or page color replacements as presets, or you can save both page color curves and page color replacements together as a preset for future use. You can apply presets through Fiery ImageViewer or Raster Curve Editor.

Using Color Replacement

Color Replacement allows you to replace colors in the output raster of an image.

  1. In the Color Replacement pane, click Pick original color and select the original color you want to replace in the image. The large square defines the currently viewed area, and the smaller square defines the target pixel.
  2. In the Color Replacement pane, select the replacement color by doing one of the following:
    • Click Pick replacement color and select the replacement color in the image using the replacement color picker.
    • Enter the color replacement values.
    • Click Pick spot color and select the spot color from the spot color library.
  3. Click Apply.

The color replacement is added to the Edits pane.

Keep in mind the following:

  • In the Edits pane, you can show or hide color replacements using the eye icon, change the order of color replacements, or delete color replacements.

  • By selecting a color replacement in the Edits pane, you can modify a substituted color later.

  • When you modify an entry in the Edits pane, Fiery ImageViewer clears the All Pages check box because the modified entry is valid only for the current page.

  • When a Fiery server connects to a printer or a high-speed inkjet press, color replacement does not appear in Front and Back Overlay mode.

  • Clearing the All Pages check box from any page for any color replacement edit deletes that specific edit from all pages except the current page.

  • Deleting a color replacement entry from any page deletes the color replacement from all pages in the document only if you selected the All Pages check box. If you cleared the All Pages check box, deleting the edit affects only the current page.

  • You can apply up to 32 color replacements per page.

  • For best results, view the raster at 100% in Fiery ImageViewer when applying color replacements. If you view the raster at less than 100%, anti-aliasing of the raster preview may cause color replacement at edges to look distorted. Anti-aliasing does not affect the print.
