Spot Pro Preferences

You can set preferences for Spot Pro.

  1. To open the Spot Pro Preferences window, click the Preferences toolbar icon.
  2. Specify the ∆E tolerance.
  3. Specify ∆E format.
    • dE 2000 - A variant of CIELAB that CIE recommended in 2000. This method uses KL = KC = KH = 1.0.
    • dE CIE76 – A distance based formula for color difference, defined by CIE (International Commission on Illumination) in 1976.
    • dE CMC - The ratio of differences in lightness to chroma and to hue calculated using the ISO standard ISO 105-J03. Values for lightness and chroma weights are 1.0 for use with perceptibility data.
    • dE 94 - A variant of CIELAB that CIE TC1-29 recommends as the color difference formula. For graphic arts applications, this method uses K1 = 0.045 and K2 = 0.015.
  4. Specify the Preferred measurement mode by selecting one of the following:
    • M0 - UV included
    • M1 - D50 UV included
    • M2 - UV cut
  5. Fiery Edge spot color processing is enabled by default and provides for greater control over spot color recipes to improve spot color accuracy, especially for out of gamut colors. Disabling Fiery Edge spot color processing recalculates all spot color recipes on your system. This will affect the ∆E values of all spot color recipes on the Fiery server. For a Fiery server with extended gamut profiles (with colors beyond CMYK), this recalculation of spot color recipes will limit the output values to four colors (including black). With Fiery Edge spot color processing you can:
    • Specify the maximum ∆E deviation allowed for Fiery Edge settings.
      • Increasing the allowed ∆E deviation may allow for cleaner spot color recipes that are more visually appealing.
    • Specify Remove contamination to remove a color from a spot color recipe with very low values.
      • Small amounts of a process color in a spot color recipe can create a speckled appearance. Removing low value colorants from a spot color recipe can result in cleaner looking spot colors.
    • Specify Fill tone values above 95% to use 100% of a color in a spot color recipe when it is already 95% or higher.
      • Spot color recipes using colorants with values slightly less than 100% can show a pattern of fine white speckles. Increasing the colorant value to 100% eliminates this problem.
    • Specify Override Maximum Black settings from the output profile for more consistent grays and to reduce the amount of CMY ink or toner used in spot color recipes.
    Note: For Fiery system software FS600/600 Pro, disabling Fiery Edge spot color processing will replace your existing Fiery Edge spot color recipes. To preserve your Fiery Edge spot color recipes and any edits you have made, back up your Fiery Edge spot color groups in the .icc file format prior to disabling Fiery Edge spot color processing. You can switch between Fiery Edge spot color processing technology and Standard Fiery spot color processing at any time.
    Note: For Fiery system software FS500/500 Pro, enabling Fiery Edge spot color processing will replace your existing standard spot color recipes. To preserve your standard spot color recipes and any edits you have made, back up your standard spot color groups in the .icc file format prior to enabling Fiery Edge spot color processing. You can switch between Standard Fiery spot color processing technology and Fiery Edge spot color processing at any time.
  6. Specify input settings.
    • Remove contamination.
    • Fill tone values above 95%.
    • Override the maximum black settings from the output profile.
  7. Click Factory Default to use the default preference settings.
